What makes a Ugadi celebration land at work?
Ugadi opens the year for Kannada and Telugu families — Chaitra's first day, when the almanac is read aloud and the year is tasted before it is lived. We bring the elements that make it recognisable: bevu-bella, the neem-and-jaggery mix that says the year will hold bitter and sweet together; mango-leaf toranas over the doorways; a fresh rangoli at the entrance; and a menu built around obbattu and the season's first mangoes. For Maharashtrian colleagues the same morning is Gudi Padwa, and the gudi can stand alongside the toranas — one celebration, two names, nobody left explaining their own new year.
