Is Ugadi the same as Sankranti or Pongal?
No — and it is worth getting right. Ugadi is the Kannada and Telugu NEW YEAR, in March or April, set by the luni-solar calendar. Sankranti and Pongal are the JANUARY harvest festival, set by the sun. Different season, different meaning. We run them as separate celebrations.
What actually happens on the floor?
Bevu-bella served to everyone, mango-leaf toranas at the entrances, a fresh rangoli, and a menu built around obbattu and the season's first mangoes. Where you want it, a panchanga shravana — the year's almanac read aloud — opens the morning.
We have Maharashtrian colleagues too. Does this cover Gudi Padwa?
Yes. It is the same morning. The gudi stands alongside the toranas and the greeting works in both traditions, so nobody has to explain their own new year.
What lead time works best?
Two weeks is comfortable. The date moves a lot year to year — 19 March in 2026, 8 April in 2027 — so the calendar on this site always shows the next actual occurrence rather than a fixed date.
